Hi — I’m Aslynn.
That’s “As” , as in “as cool as can be,” with the name “Lynn” tacked on for good measure.
As Lynn walked down the street, she ran into an old friend.
Aslynn walked down the street, and she ran into an old friend.
There, now you have it.
I’ve decided I’d like to have RNY Gastric Bypass, and that I’d like to chronicle the efforts to get it approved and scheduled. Hopefully once that’s over with, I’ll be blogging about my experiences post-op. This blog starts with the weekend I decided to go forward and get approved, and will hopefully document right through my post-op experience, with regular check-in posts regarding weight loss and other related thoughts.
I have done a lot of Googling about weight loss surgery, gastric bypass, etc, over the three years I’ve considered this as an option. Most blogs I’ve seen are only post-op, and don’t chronicle the entire experience. I hope that my efforts will not only help me remember what I have gone through, but also show others who might be considering the same path. It is certainly not right for everyone, but I think that Gastric Bypass is right for me.
Please feel free to leave comments of any kind. I wish you all well in your own personal journeys.

Hey George! I’m so glad you took the time to read a little of my blog. Definately take the time to head over to Christie’s blog, as she had the same procedure you’re (hopefully) having. Whatever happens, you’ve already done tons of hard work by deciding to take the steps towards being healthy. You can do it! I’m excited for you. Let me know if I can talk to Elizabeth about crediting you for that group, I think we had a great talk. Good luck! Keep in touch, I want to see some after pictures!!

I just discovered your blog and I’m so glad. It’s been 11 weeks (50 pounds down) since my gastric bypass surgery. Unfortunately I have been battling Hypoglycema (low blood sugar). Food doesn’t taste good and have almost daily instances of passing out. Would never encourage anyone with low blood sugar to have this surgery. Doctors just keep telling me to eat more but I’m convinced it’s not how much I eat but what I eat. Just made an appointment with a dietician. Keeping my fingers crossed. I will continue to follow your blog and hope the very best for you.

Hey Karen! I had the same kind of problem when I switched from protein shakes to real food, about 6-8 weeks in. No confirmed diagnosis or anything, but eating was hard and I didn’t feel like I was fueling my body properly. Some serious dizziness, but no actual fainting. Our prescribed diet is high protein low carb, which is low sugar naturally. And the surgery definitely changes the way your body deals with sugar. I find myself getting sugar rushes from a can of ginger-ale. Definitely check with the nutritionist. My immediate suggestion would be fruit juice with no added sugar. Plenty of natural sugar but no dumping risk. Good luck, Karen! Thanks for commenting! Congrats on 50 pounds down!
